Max Boot, M.Sc.

Research assistant

I have a huge interest in animal behaviour and cognition, which all started when I visited Artis Zoo as a child. This resulted in me studying Biology at the University of Amsterdam, where I received both my Bachelor and Master degrees in Biological Sciences. During my last research internship, I studied the spatio-temporal memory of red-ruffed lemurs in Artis Zoo. After this internship, I stayed around in the zoo and started to work as a research assistant for the CoBEco group, which conducts touchscreen research with the chimpanzees in Artis. This research has deepened my interest in animal cognition, especially in primates, using new technology like touchscreens and eye-trackers.

While working at Artis, I came in contact with the CoPAN lab, where I have been working as a research assistant since June 2024. Within the lab my work focusses on comparative research with chimpanzees on emotion perception in Artis zoo, using eye-trackers and touchscreens.
