Chimpansee Foto- en video competitie

Thema: Het Sociale leven van chimpansees 

Prijs: 200 euro

Voor een nieuw onderzoek zijn we op zoek naar foto’s en video’s van chimpansees in dierentuinen, gemaakt in 2019, 2020 of 2021. Een voorbeeld van een geschikte foto is deze hierboven, van een volwassen en jonge chimpansee die aan het spelen zijn, gefotografeerd door Joke kok, in Artis. 

We zijn specifiek op zoek naar foto’s en video’s van:

• Sociale interacties (vlooien, agressief gedrag, spelen, etc.)

• Stress, machtsvertoon, gapen, vlooien of expressies van emoties

• Foto’s of video’s die dezelfde individuen laten zien in een neutrale setting

• Close-ups van de oog-regio, bij een neutrale gezichtsuitdrukking

Vooral foto’s en video’s van aggressieve interacties zijn lastig te vinden, en zouden we zeer waarderen! Daarnaast hebben we ook ‘controle’ foto’s en video’s voor ons onderzoek nodig, die dezelfde individuen laten zien in een neutrale setting. Iedere duidelijke afbeelding hiervan is waardevol.

De foto’s en video’s moeten in kleur zijn, en mogen één of meerdere individuen bevatten. Je mag zoveel foto’s en video’s indienen als je wilt (bij voorkeur in RAW format), voor 13 september, via www.wetransfer.com (t.w.zijlstra@fsw.leidenuniv.nl)

Als je je foto’s en video’s inzendt, geef dan alsjeblieft aan in welke dierentuin deze is geschoten en wanneer dat was.

De foto’s en video’s worden alleen voor wetenschappelijk onderzoek gebruikt. Ze zullen niet openbaar worden gemaakt, of voor commerciële doeleinden worden gebruikt.

Naast deze foto’s en video’s zijn ook zeer welkom:

• Foto’s en video’s van andere mensapen zoals bonobo’s, gorilla’s en orang oetans 

• oudere foto’s / video’s (<2019)

(Dit materiaal wordt niet meegenomen in de winactie, maar is nog wel erg nuttig voor ons, dus zendt deze ook vooral toe. We hebben veel lege ruimte op onze harde schijf die wachten om gevuld te worden met mooie foto’s! Door ze met ons te delen lever je een grote bijdrage aan de wetenschap!)

Theme: The Social lives of chimpanzees

For a new non-invasive experiment we are looking for pictures and videos of chimpanzees from zoos made in 2019, 2020 or 2021. See for example the wonderful image of an adult and a juvenile chimpanzee playing, photographed by Joke Kok at Artis (the Netherlands). 

We are specifically looking for images and videos showing:

• Social interactions (grooming, aggressive fights, playing, etc)

• Stress, display, yawns, grooming or emotional expressions

• Images of videos showing the same individuals in a neutral setting

• Close-ups of the eye-region showing a neutral expression

Especially images and videos of aggressive interactions are difficult to find, and would therefore be much appreciated. Besides this, we will also need ‘control’ images for our experiment, showing the same individuals in a neutral setting, so any clear image may be useful. 

The pictures and videos can show one or more individuals and should be in colour. You can send as many pictures and or videos as you want (preferably in raw format) before September 13th via www.wetransfer.com (t.w.zijlstra@fsw.leidenuniv.nl)

When submitting images or videos, please mention the zoo where the recording was made and when it was made.

The pictures will be used for scientific research only, they will not be made public or used for commercial purposes.

Also very welcome are:

• Pictures and videos of other great apes such as bonobos, gorillas and orangutans 

• older pictures (<2019)

This material will not be included in the competition, but is still very useful for us, so please send this too! We have many empty terrabites waiting for your beautiful images! Please share them with us and make a valuable contribution to science!
